When you’re feeling low, it can be tempting to feel guilty for taking time to do something you enjoy. But research shows that if you regularly do the things you enjoy, it can help lift your mood, and may even make it easier to tackle other less enjoyable stuff.

Here’s how to go about it:

  1. Pick something you usually enjoy doing
  2. Plan some time to do it this week. Keep things in balance. If you’ve got exams soon, you won’t do yourself any favours scheduling a week long snowboarding trip. Maybe watch a snowboarding clip & plan your future trip instead
  3. Give yourself enough time to get into it
  4. Notice any guilty thoughts, and keep going anyway.
